Gallantry Awards of India
Param Veer Chakra
It is the highest decoration of valour award. Param Veer Chakra is the most conspicuous act of bravery or some act of valour or self sacrifice in the battle ground against enemy, whether on land, sea or in the air. The medal is made of bronze.
Mahaveer Chakra
It is the second highest gallantry award for act of conspicuous gallantry in the presence of enemy whether on land, at sea or in the air. The medal is made of standard silver.
Vir Chakra
It is the third gallantry award given for bravery in the battle field against enemy. The medal is made of standard silver.
Ashok Chakra
This is awarded for valour, courageous action or sacrifice, away from the battle field. Ashok Chakra is highest military awarded during peacetime.
Kirti Chakra
This is awarded for conspicuous gallantry. It is circular in shape made of standard silver. The obverse and reverse are exactly the same as in Ashok Chakra.
Shaurya Chakra
This is awarded for act of gallantry during peacetime.
